Industry’s ‘call to arms’
One of the most recognisable members of the island’s hospitality sector is calling for owners to show a united front.
Andy Saunders, owner of Quids Inn, issued the call on social media last night.
Andy, who has repeatedly called for more support for the industry, says a meeting will be held tomorrow and is open to all industry owners.
Describing it as a ‘call to arms’, he said it will be held at the Creg ny Baa from 4pm.
Andy’s’ plea follows the concerns of the owner of the Victory Cafe, Vicky Cottier called on the gov to change VAT arrangements to support the sector.
This has been ruled out as Manx VAT operates within an agreement with the UK gov.
Vicky also noted the difficulty industry is having in recruiting staff.
The hospitality sector has been particularly badly hit from all sides since Brexit, the pandemic and the cost of living crisis which has been disposable income fall and fewer people available for or wanting to work.
