Barclays is to close its Castletown branch, leaving the ancient capital with no regular counter services.
The bank is currently only open three days a week.
Earlier this year, when asked by Gef, the bank refused to confirm it was to close the branch when planning permission was sought to install an ATM at the town hall.
In an email to customers, this bank said: ‘Following an extensive review of the number of clients visiting us in Castletown, we have taken the difficult decision to close this branch on February 9 2024.

‘We realise this might not be welcome news and we are sorry for any inconvenience it may cause. However, we would also like to take this opportunity to reassure you that we’re still here for you in our branches in Douglas and Ramsey and continue to be ready to support you face-to-face in Castletown, up to the date we close.
‘We are pleased to say that we have successfully received planning permission for a new ATM machine to be installed at the Castletown Commissioners building. This will be available to use from before the closure date of our branch which means there will always be somewhere local for you to withdraw cash.’
