L’Experience To Shut

Douglas is about to lose one of its longest-running favourites, as French restaurant L’Experience has announced it will serve its last meals on Saturday, 25 October after 44 years.

Owners Belinda and Michael Murphy said ‘rising costs across every area’ have finally caught up with them, making it impossible to keep things bubbling away at the standard they’ve always prided themselves on.

The cosy, white-tablecloth spot has been home to countless celebrations, anniversaries and, of course, that legendary French onion soup which has probably comforted half the island at one time or another.

The good news? Most of the team, including head chef Michael, will be moving across to The Regency Hotel’s new restaurant venture.

And in the meantime, the Murphys are inviting diners to book in, raise a glass and help give L’Experience the farewell it deserves.

So, if you’ve got a gift voucher tucked in a drawer, or you just fancy one more crack at the crème brûlée, you’ve got until October 25 to say au revoir.
