Subway’s Manx Comeback

After two years without a footlong in sight, Subway has made its return to the Isle of Man, setting up shop inside the Spar Garage on Parliament Square, Ramsey.

The sandwich chain quietly vanished from the island in 2023 when Shoprite collapsed, taking the Peel and Port Erin branches down with it.

But thanks to Mannin Retail (the Heron & Brearley arm that already runs Spars and pubs across the island), the global sub machine is back.

The new outlet, which opened Wednesday, September 3, brings 12 jobs and will be open every day, long enough hours to fuel both the breakfast crowd and the late-night snackers (7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 8pm on Sundays).

Unlike the old supermarket subway versions, this one promises the full Subway experience: subs, wraps, salads, bowls, and even loaded baked spuds.

Not everyone is cheering, though. When the comeback was first teased in June, some welcomed the extra food option, while others worried about the impact on already-struggling local takeaways.
