Big news for fans of the Golden Arches: McDonald’s Douglas franchisee Amir Afsar has revealed that he and the chain are ‘actively looking’ at opening a second branch on the island.

Speaking after the £1.6 million refurbishment of the Peel Road restaurant, Mr Afsar, who also runs 12 McDonald’s in Ireland, said the demand is definitely there.

And if the queues of cars on Peel Road these past few days are anything to go by, we’d have to say we agree with him.

‘There’s been talk about opening a second McDonald’s over here,’ he said.

‘We’re looking at all areas of the island, but no decision has been made yet. It could be on the outskirts of Douglas, or perhaps somewhere else. Customers seem to love McDonald’s over here.’

The Peel Road site reopened on Thursday following its makeover, which has seen 15 new staff recruited with five more roles still to fill, bringing the total team to over 110.

The upgrade is part of McDonald’s ‘Convenience of the Future’ programme, designed to give stores a more contemporary, open feel.

Seating has dropped slightly from 106 to 103, but order kiosks have doubled from four to eight. The kitchen has also been redesigned to speed up service and handle more orders.

Crew members have gained a more comfortable and relaxing space, while customers now benefit from ‘ready on arrival’, allowing them to order online and pick up on arrival, either by car or in-store.

‘Our job is to ensure every experience is a great one for customers and crew,’ said Mr Afsar.

‘We’re confident these upgrades will deliver a quicker, more seamless, and more convenient experience. The investment also paves the way for future innovation across the UK and Ireland.’

Electrics, plumbing, and air conditioning have all been upgraded too, so the new-look McDonald’s is ready.
