Medicinal Cannabis Cafe Gets The Green Light

The team behind Ramsey’s Green Lounge have been given the green light, after securing planning approval for the project.

Founder Maria confirmed the news in a social media post today (Wednesday), revealing that the decision came through on her birthday after what she described as nearly three months of waiting.

‘I am so happy to reveal that today I finally got the planning approval through for The Green Lounge,’ she said.

‘After nearly three months of waiting, holding my nerve, and keeping everything moving quietly in the background, it’s done. And of all days, it landed on my birthday, which honestly feels like the universe saying ‘you earned this’.’

The approval marks a major milestone for the Green Lounge CSC, which is set to open at 66 Parliament Street, the former Rum Baba’s site, and aims to become the Isle of Man’s first medicinal cannabis wellness café.

Despite the lengthy planning process, Maria said work on the space has continued throughout.

‘While the paperwork crawled along, I didn’t stop. I’ve been working every single day to get the Lounge ready, building it properly, carefully, and with intention,’ she said.

‘It’s been a lesson in patience, trust, and staying focused even when everything feels stuck.’

As a result, the Green Lounge will now open Consumption Passes this Friday.

These will act as pre-launch passes ahead of the café’s planned opening at the end of February, with full details to be shared at the time of release.

The Green Lounge has been billed as a supportive, alcohol-free hub for medicinal cannabis patients, offering education, advocacy, creative workshops and wellbeing events, alongside a private Consumption Pass system for those who legally use medicinal cannabis and want a stigma-free space to do so.

The project has faced a number of challenges since it was first announced, with Maria previously describing December as a particularly difficult period.

Even so, she has remained determined to deliver what she says is a space the island genuinely needs.

‘This project has tested me more than anything I’ve done before, but it’s also shown me what persistence really looks like,’ she said.

‘Thank you to everyone who’s supported, checked in, believed, and waited alongside me during this unbelievably stressful process.

‘What an incredible birthday present. I can’t wait to finally welcome you all in!’
