New Management at the Ginger Hall

The island is dotted with famous pubs, but only a rare few are known around the world and on Friday, the Ginger Hall in Sulby will reopen its doors with new owners.

Anya and Mark Evans have taken on the Ginge from Ben Sowery.

But having taken a fortnight to have a bit of an update, Mark admitted there’s been more work in opening a pub than he originally thought.

He said: ‘We’ve had quite a bit of work to do in the cellar, behind the bar, things you wouldn’t normally see, so there’s been a lot of work gone into that. We’ve spent a long time sanding and varnishing the floor. So it’s been quite a lot.

‘And then all of the administration side of things, it’s taken quite a bit time as well. But we’re only two weeks into it and as we just had to shut to make sure we’ve got everything right.’

Mark said that having been asked by Ben to take over the pub, he jumped at the opportunity, before then thinking what a task he’d taken on, but it was something the couple wanted to do and they are very excited to open the doors to customers again.

No doubt if you’re going to take on a pub and want to be thrown into the deep end, then the Ginge during MGP or TT is the way to do it, but it is a challenge that Mark and Anya can’t wait to meet.

Away from the work already done, the couple have plans for a new menu, improving the guest rooms and working with the outside space, but Mark did say this would be done gradually in the build up towards TT24.

The Ginger Hall is set to reopen this Friday and will be open all through MGP, so if you’re that way, pop in, say hello and buy a pint (or several).
