Food Bank Issues Urgent Appeal for Donations

The Isle of Man Food Bank is urging islanders to help as it reports dwindling stocks and increasing demand for emergency food support across the island.

The Isle of Man Food Bank, which operates entirely on donations with no government funding, says it is increasingly having to purchase items itself in order to continue supporting people in need.

In a statement, the charity said: ‘Our stocks are really diminishing and more and more we are having to go and buy stock to help those in need.

‘If you could buy just one extra item when shopping it would help us in our mission to support those in need.’

The Food Bank is asking for donations of a wide range of essential items, including tinned foods such as Spam, chopped pork or corned beef, tinned fruit, spaghetti, hot dogs and meatballs, as well as staples like pasta sauces, rice, cereals, UHT milk and coffee.

Household and hygiene products are also in demand, including cleaning products, laundry detergent, shampoo, shower gel, hand soap and toilet rolls.

Special requests have also been made for fresh or frozen meat, including chicken, minced beef, sausages and fish fingers.

Donations can be dropped off at Ballafletcher House in Tromode, which is open weekdays from 10am to 2pm, excluding Wednesdays when it is closed. The charity’s Northern depot in Ramsey is also reported to be short of supplies.

The Food Bank added: ‘The list is not exhaustive, we accept and appreciate any donation.’

It also reminded islanders that drop-off points are available across the island, making it easier for people to contribute while doing their regular shopping.
