One of the island’s top three bird shaped mascots of all time is entering the Parish Walk.

Raymond The Raven, FC Isle of Man’s unofficial mascot (no seriously he is very unofficial, like we can’t stress this enough), will tackle the Parish to raise funds for the club and a mental health charity.

With a target of £500, Raymond will be splitting his money between the club and Isle Listen.

As a Raven, Raymond says he cares ‘deeply and passionately about FC Isle of Man and wants to support the players, supporters, management, board and many volunteers which make up the FC Isle of Man community and family’.

With the club having just completed its second season in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division (Tier 9 of the English League) many on (and 0ff) island fans are eagerly awaiting next season, but for the club, there are unique challenges to go with this.

A requirement of entry to the division is that the club has to pay for away teams and match officials to travel and stay on the island, which puts FC Isle of Man a considerable financial disadvantage to other teams, some of who even pay their players at this level.

Raymond said: ‘It takes considerable time, commitment and dedication from the management and players, and understanding from their employers for the away travel and all the early morning training sessions, not to mention co-operation and support from the local teams that the players are registered with.

‘The management, players and supporters have been a credit to and indeed ambassadors for the island at the away games, and in turn the club and supporters hospitality to the away teams and supporters have showcased the island in a very favourable light.’

As well as this, a fantastic community spirit has built around the club, and Raymond would like this to continue for as long as possible.

Having been told he isn’t allowed to fly, Raymond has said he has had to accept he will be walking and wants to reach at least Rushen, which just so happens to be the home of one of his favourite players, Furo Davies.

Isle Listen

Raymond also recognises that recent times have been extraordinarily challenging for people and have taken an unprecendented toll on people’s mental health and well-being and therefore he would like to also raise funds for local Manx Charity Isle Listen.
