Swap Shop Raises £4,500
It was opened as part of Capital International Group’s efforts to raise £25,000 to send a team of 12 volunteers to Huruma to refurbish the orphanage’s buildings.
The pop up swap shop set up by Minna Perup in aid of a Tanzanian orphanage raised £4,500.
It was opened as part of Capital International Group’s efforts to raise £25,000 to send a team of 12 volunteers to Huruma to refurbish the orphanage’s buildings.
Minna, one of the Capital employees travelling to Tanzania, created the Swap Shop, believed to the biggest ever held on the island, to engage the community, promote environmental responsibility, and raise funds for the Huruma Orphanage.
The pop-up shop allowed people to donate clothing they no longer wear in exchange for up to 14 tokens to use in the shop, while securing some bargains for people during the cost of living crisis.
As part of the event, over 5,000 clothing items for redistribution were collected, preventing textile waste and facilitating more than 500 clothing swaps.
Furthermore, during the event, 20 bags of clothing were recycled, sparing them from being sent to landfills.
The event very much embodied Minna’s personal vision that ‘one person’s trash is another person’s treasure’.
The company said: ‘Capital International Group would like to thank everyone who supported the Swap Shop and made the event a resounding success!’
