A Night of Glitz, Glam and Fake Tan
The evening was concluded with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Richard Leigh who has dedicated 25 years to the RNLI.
Media Isle of Man’s annual Awards for Excellence have once again shone a spotlight on the tremendous people of our fair little island.
Hosted by compère Monty Halls (one of Gef’s top three halls), the night celebrated not only the best of our island, but also our strong links to the sea and RNLI.
Beginning with a welcome party at the Sefton, the evening came alive in the Villa Marina where Monty spoke about how great our island is and the environment.
Throughout the evening, the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer read a message from the Lord of Mann, the Mariners Choir belted out a stunning performance of Isle of Mona and Sue Cook’s award for leader of the year was very well received in the room.
The evening was concluded with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Richard Leigh who has dedicated 25 years to the RNLI.
A teacher by profession, specialising in caring for children with complex needs, Mr Leigh is regularly raising funds for his chosen charities and taking part in events in the south.
Earlier this year, he was awarded a bronze medal by the RNLI for ‘superb boat-handling, seamanship and courage during the rescue of a yacht in rough seas in very demanding circumstances.’
This was the first time a gallantry medal was awarded to Port St Mary RNLI.
