A Pioneer with Relentless Devotion

The island’s Ambulance Service has paid tribute to its former head Steve Crowe, who has passed away after a short illness.

Tributes have poured in for Mr Crowe from across the island, including the organisations he was involved in on a volunteer basis such as St John Ambulance and the Woodland Trust.

As recently as last week, when five colleagues completed their qualifications to become Emergency Care Assistants, Mr Crowe’s work was recognised, with Manx Care saying the training was a ‘lasting legacy to the vision he had for the future development of local Ambulance colleagues’.

The Ambulance Service said: ‘Steve had a relentless devotion to nurturing colleagues, and was a pioneer for innovation despite a backdrop of many years of challenges and road humps – and being a stickler for doing things the right way!

‘Over many years leading IMAS, and as part of a small and unique team, he nurtured many of our team to be the clinicians they are today, and is fondly remembered by those who have retired for the role he played in their career development and public service, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Isle of Man Woodland Trust said: ‘Steve was a regular at our tree planting sessions, always keen to get stuck in – whatever the weather – and also actively served on our board of directors for four years. He’ll be remembered fondly, not only for his passion for the preservation of our island, but for his kind heart and amazing sense of humour.’
