Afternoon Tea to Help Bring Ethan Home

There’s a proper feel-good fundraiser happening in the south this weekend, and it’s all about bringing one of our own home.

An afternoon tea event in aid of 27-year-old Port St Mary man Ethan Richardson will take place on Saturday (February 28) from 2pm to 5pm at Sami’s at the Bradda Glen, Port Erin.

Tickets cost £35 and include an afternoon tea buffet and welcome drink, with guests also invited to BYO for just £5 corkage per bottle.

Organisers are promising some fabulous raffle prizes, with all proceeds going directly towards helping Ethan and his family.

The fundraiser comes as Ethan’s family continue their fight to bring him home to the Isle of Man.

Ethan sustained a severe hypoglycaemic brain injury on September 8, 2024, after his blood glucose levels dropped dangerously low.

Diagnosed with type one diabetes at 14, he was initially treated at Noble’s Hospital, where doctors did not expect him to survive.

After months at Noble’s showing only limited signs of recovery, he was airlifted in December 2024 to the Sid Watkins Rehabilitation Centre in Liverpool for specialist assessment.

He later moved to Derby House Neurological Care Home, where he remains and has been diagnosed as being in a minimally conscious state.

His mum, Jo Dunne, has travelled weekly to Liverpool, often living in a camper van to keep costs down.

‘We’ve been in survival mode for 18 months really,’ she said. ‘We know that Ethan’s lifespan has been significantly reduced because of his injury. We have a very small window of time with him now and we want to make sure that it is quality time.’
