She’s even going to the live final!

With the world’s greatest singing competition being held in Liverpool this weekend, Gef has been on a mission to find the island’s biggest Eurovision fan.

We were looking for someone who not only loves Eurovision, but someone who knows their history and embraces the spirit of it.

Step forward, Carol Cregeen!

Carol told us: ‘I love everything about Eurovision, including the run up to the event, as new songs are revealed!  It’s such a fun event, with such a great variety of musical styles.

‘On the night of the final there’s the frustration when neighbouring countries award each other ‘douze points’ and then great anticipation as the final votes are awarded.

‘Eurovision is a big celebration of different cultures, music genres and diversity, an event which unites the countries of Europe and a good excuse to have a party!’

Eurovision has had many iconic acts (looking at you Dustin the Turkey) but none have made the same impact on the world as a certain Swedish band, with Carol naming Abba’s 1974 winner Waterloo as her favourite ever entry.

Like Gef, Carol is a big fan of a Eurovision party, when she doesn’t get to go to the big event itself.

‘When I’m not attending the grand final, which I was extremely lucky to have done last year, my friends and I have a party,’ she said.

‘They decorate their house with European flags and we have food from all over Europe. We hold a sweepstake and I compile a quiz – the winners receive an assortment of Swiss and Belgium chocolate.’

However, while Carol was planning to watch Eurovision at home this year, she told us that not only has she been crowned the Island’s Biggest Eurovision Fan, Carol also won Cadbury’s competition for tickets to the live final tonight!

We hope she has an amazing night and can’t wait to meet Carol to hand over her prize of a Steam Packet voucher and the coveted Gef Eurovision trophy!
