Douglas will kick off the countdown to Crimbo this week with its big light switch-on.

The event features two outdoor cinemas, a Snow Garden, Winter Wonderland fire shows, family entertainment, Christmas crazy golf, a Wood n’ Craft workshop and, of course, Father Christmas travelling from the North Pole to his Grotto.
Mayor Natalie Byron-Tear will be switching on the lights at 7pm with a message shown on the cinema screens and through speakers.
There are events on throughout the town centre for the big event, running through until 8pm.
City Centre manager, Oliver Cheshire, said: ‘An estimated 7,000 residents attended the traditional lights switch-on last year and we are looking forward to greeting a similar number of people from all over the Island later this week.
‘Not only have we a range of annual favourites but some new additions for 2023 and, for those who cannot make it, there will also be a combination of entertainment and animation at weekends and late night Thursdays in the run-up to Christmas, including choirs, bands, festive markets and a host of fun characters.
‘As for this Thursday, The Greatest City Christmas Show will officially burst into life with attractions for all the family stretching from Duke Street to the Cultural Area from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.’
