Farewell, Penny

Penny. Poor old Penny.

It looks like after years trundling around the island helping locals with their banking, Penny, the Isle of Man Bank’s mobile bank van, has finally reached the end of the road.

The girl has had her troubles over the past couple of years, being out of service with various technical issues, but she was a useful service to so many in rural locations, particularly the elderly.

It’s yet another banking facility for the community lost.

While Gef has contacted Isle of Man Bank this morning, it was Onchan MHK Rob Callister who announced her fond farewell.

He took to Facebook, saying he received a phone call from Ryan at Isle of Man Bank, confirming that Monday next week will see Penny hang up her wheels.

Poor Ryan having to deliver the tragic news.

Mr Callister said: ‘I received a phone call from Ryan at the Isle of Man Bank a few moments ago to inform me that the Penny Mobile Bank service will be formally withdrawn on Monday next week.

‘There have been ongoing technical issues with the vehicle, however, as the number of people using the service has reduced significantly over the past couple of years, the decision has been made to withdraw it.

‘if any constituents have questions or concerns, please email me the details, and I will forward them to Ryan at the Isle of Man Bank so they can respond directly.

‘I am posting this update online with the full permission of the Isle of Man Bank’
