Fish Store to Close

Fishmann Aquatics’ Nigel Thijs has thanked customers for their support, after revealing he has made the sad decision to close.

The store, based on Balthane Industrial Estate, is popular with both experienced and beginner fish owners, thanks to their expertise.

In a post on Facebook, the store said the announcement had been made ‘with a very heavy heart’ to close the store.

It said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. Location, energy prices, staff costs etc are all issues, but mainly I think it’s just time for a new chapter. I’ve made a lot of lifelong friends I’m sure, and it’s been great watching families grow and each generation coming in to start their own tanks up, although saying that, has made me feel really old.’

While no timescale has been given, Mr Thijs said he’d ideally like to close before TT and saying that ‘anyone interested in buying the business as a whole is more than welcome to get in touch and we can chat’.

The post added: ‘I’ll also be looking to sell the stock on the UK and online if there are no possible buyers here. There won’t be any sale planned just yet but I’d definitely recommend anyone who needs anything, Especially fish as we’ve just had a fresh order in, to come in sooner rather than later as chances are when they are gone, they are gone.

‘This has been a very tough decision and one I’ve been debating on since Covid but I feel that it’s now time to let go. Thank you to all who take the time to get to the bottom of this missive and I am sure I will see you all at some point over the next few weeks.’
