From Helm to Hops

Get ready to set sail for the most brew-tiful event of the year as Captain Steven Carter, the legendary founder of the Laxey Towing Company, hoists the anchor and opens this year’s Isle of Man Beer and Cider Festival.

From Thursday April 11 to Saturday, April 13, the Villa Marina’s Royal Hall will transform into a treasure trove of over 150 real ales, ciders, perries and fruit wines, fit for even the saltiest of seafarers!

Captain Carter, Captain of the Parish of Lonan, known for guiding more than 4,500 vessels in and out of Douglas Harbour, will take the helm as the esteemed guest of honour.

He’ll even pour the inaugural pint of the festival’s very own brew, ‘S.O.S’, specially crafted by Okell’s Brewery for the occasion (sounds delicious).

But it’s not just about the beers and cheers as this year a donation from each pint of the new beer sold will be donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), this year’s festival charity which is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024.

And what’s a maritime celebration without some sea shanties? The ‘Start Shanty Singers’ will serenade crowds with their tunes, while a collection of grub will keep bellies full and spirits high.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from the VillaGaiety box office, the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal or on the door subject to availability.
