Tonight marks the final evening of the winter half of the year
Our friends at Culture Vannin have reminded everyone that tonight is Oie Voaldyn, one of the most important days in the Manx year.
Marking the final evening of the winter half of the year, the last night before May is celebrated before the summer half dawns in the morning.
Before sunrise on Laa Boaldyn (1 May) is one the most dangerous times of the year, when you are most open to your luck or prosperity being changed by outside influence.
Culture Vannin says this when when we ‘are most exposed to outside influence in terms of our luck or prosperity’.
It adds: ‘It is incredibly important, therefore, to carry out the traditions that have been practised for centuries, to ensure the best season ahead for ourselves and our families.’
3) BURN THE BUITCH
Burn some gorse on your land, so that the fire and smoke burns off the evil spirits (no need for a big fire at all – be safe!)
