Manx Heritage Sites Reopen for 2026 Season

Manx history buffs, day-trippers and anyone who just fancies pretending they live in a castle for a few hours, rejoice.

The Isle of Man’s historic sites are officially back in business for the 2026 season from tomorrow (Friday).

Manx National Heritage (MNH) has confirmed its seasonal attractions will reopen from Friday, March 27 through to Sunday, November 1, meaning there’s once again a solid seven months to climb, wander and dramatically gaze out to sea.

Among the headline acts returning are the iconic Great Laxey Wheel (yes, you can climb it, legs permitting), Castle Rushen, Peel Castle, the Nautical Museum, Cregneash Folk Village, Rushen Abbey and The Grove Museum.

In short: If it’s old, important, and slightly haunted-looking, it’s probably reopening.

Visitors will once again be able to explore the island’s rich history, from medieval castles to traditional crofting life, or simply enjoy a wholesome wander.

Guided tours around Castletown will also return on selected dates, taking in the Nautical Museum, the Old House of Keys and the Old Grammar School.

These must be booked in advance via MNH’s website, so no turning up on the day and hoping to blag your way in.

Pauline Wall, Head of Operations for Manx National Heritage, said reopening for the season is always a major moment.

She said: ‘Reopening our seasonal sites is always a highlight of the year. It is wonderful to see our historic attractions come back to life as our teams, volunteers and supporters prepare to welcome visitors once again.

‘Manx National Heritage sites offer something for everyone, from exploring castles and heritage landscapes to discovering the stories, people and traditions that have shaped the Isle of Man. We look forward to sharing the story of our beautiful island and to welcoming residents and visitors alike throughout the season.’

Across spring, summer and autumn, a packed programme of events, exhibitions and activities is planned, giving plenty of chances to soak up Manx culture, or at the very least, justify an ice cream while ‘taking in the heritage’.

The Great Laxey Wheel will once again have extended opening hours during peak summer, while group visits and cruise ship tours can also be arranged in advance.

And there’s more to come, with new visitor hubs set to open in Castletown and Laxey in early summer, offering extra facilities including retail, ticketing and information points.
