Promenade Methodist Church Marks Half a Century

The Promenade Methodist Church has officially hit the big 5-0, celebrating its 50th anniversary with a packed service that proved the place is still very much the beating heart of the community.

The special anniversary service on Sunday was followed by the all-important cup of tea and a good natter in the top hall, while guests also got a look at the newly-refurbished lower ground floor community hub.

An impressive display of photographs charting more than 50 years of memories showed just how much the space has meant to generations of locals.

Among those popping in to mark the milestone were Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer, who were delighted to be part of the celebrations and to meet people afterwards.

The service itself was led by Rev Dr Janet Corlett, who received thanks for the invitation to what was described as a meaningful and thoroughly lovely way to mark half a century on the Promenade.

Not bad for 50!
