Remember, remember the 4th and 5th of November

Because goings on there are a lot

For there is a reason why… you know, let’s just wrap this up here, I failed poetry in school.

Rather than getting arrested for arson again, why not try one of these safely organised events this Bonfire Night weekend.

The Douglas City Fireworks Display

*Ideal for people who love firework displays in Douglas.

There’s a lot of firework shows to choose from this weekend but this is the only one synchronised with music so you can you can re-enact the scene from V for Vendetta. Maybe avoid blowing up Tynwald though unless you want to spend Christmas in Jurby with limited visiting hours… Although if you want to avoid your weird uncle then that could be a feasible option.

When: Friday, 3 November.

Where: Harris Promenade.

Time: Start time is 6:40pm with the judging of the Best Guy Competition (Prizes: £100, £50 and £25 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.) If those cash prizes aren’t an incentive to get involved then I don’t know what motivates you, man.

The display starts at 7pm synchronised to music. You can listen to the firework soundtrack live on Manx Radio.

Ramsey Firework Spectacular

*Ideal for people who love fireworks in Ramsey.

Another fireworks display for those of you up north, which means the weather will probably be better.

When: Saturday, 4 November.

Where: Mooragh Park, Ramsey.

Time: 7:30pm with entertainment at The Lakeside Centre from 6.30pm.

Dhoon Church Bonfire Night Celebration

*Ideal for people who love Dhoon Church and bonfires.

There’ll be bangers in the sky and on a plate. Dhoon Church has you covered on all your hot dog, soup, and roll needs for £1 each. ONE POUND EACH. Think of HOW MANY you could buy if you win the Best Guy cash prizes from the Douglas display.

When: Saturday, 4 November.

Where: Dhoon Church.

Time: 6:30pm for the lighting of the bonfire followed by fireworks at 7pm.

Price: Free but donations to the club are always welcome.

Non-firework related

If you’re not too fussed about fireworks or are a house pet, you might want to try something non Bonfire-Night related.

Manx Potters Christmas Fair

*Ideal for pottery enthusiasts who love Christmas in November.

Now that Hop-tu-Naa and Bonfire Night are (almost) over, why beat about the bush? PUT. MARIAH. ON. And bring on the festive pottery, as the well-known saying goes.

When: Saturday, 4 November.

Where: Villa Marina Arcade.

Time: 11am-3pm.

*Ideal for music and gin enthusiasts. 

Instructions are to bring your instrument and/or your voice. And if you’re a terrible singer or musician, don’t worry, you’ll be drowned out by the sound of fireworks anyway.

Time: 8:30-11:30pm

Just ‘remember, remember’ if you are taking in a firework display and you get your phone out to film, you’re probably not going to watch those videos back. Videos of fireworks are boring. And if you try and show them to someone else they’ll only feign interest to be nice. So put your phone away and try take in the moment instead. Unless you’re live streaming it for an elderly relative who doesn’t like the cold. In which case, I hope payment is organised.
