Sailings Cancelled as Storm Jocelyn Approaches

All of today’s sailings have been cancelled and the Manxman has head off to shelter elsewhere with winds of up to 60mph look set to hit the island.

While below the strength of Storm Isha, the latest battering will affect the island later today.

The Met Office’s forecast so far: ‘Rain and drizzle this morning becoming quite heavy, turning patchy in the afternoon before then clearing to isolated showers during the evening. Maximum temperature today very mild at 12 or 13 Celsius, but with strong south or southwest winds developing.

‘Later on this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning winds will increase further, becoming gale or severe force with gusts of 60mph in places for a time, before beginning to ease by the end of the night. Then through tomorrow winds steadily decrease further, with otherwise mostly dry and bright conditions.’

It has also added a yellow weather warning: ‘Through this evening and overnight the west or southwest wind will increase to mean 37-42mph with gusts 55-65mph. There is also a small risk of isolated gusts higher than this mainly in/near any showers.

‘There is a risk of some damage and disruption due to these severe gales.’
