Slight Increase in Unemployment

Unemployment rose slightly in August, up by 11 to 313 people who registered with the Job Centre, giving a rate of 0.7%.

The international labour organisation estimates there are 758 people unemployed and looking for work.

Retail saw the highest number of people out of work, with 33, but once again catering and entertainment had the largest number of vacancies, with 208, followed by medical and health services at 177.

At the end of the month, 859 job vacancies remained at the Job Centre, down from 879 in July.
