Stormy Seas Spark Call to Support Local Manx Produce

After a week of wild weather, towering waves and no fewer than three amber warnings, the Isle of Man Creamery has said the storms have underlined the importance of supporting local produce.

With gales battering the island and coastal overtopping causing disruption throughout the week, and Steam Packet sailings cancelled, the Creamery said the conditions had once again highlighted the value of local food security, ensuring Manx produce continues to reach shelves whatever the weather throws at us.

In a social media post, the Creamery said: ‘What a weather week we’re having. Gales and coastal overtopping has plagued the island all week, resulting in lots of cancellations and delays to ferries.

‘It once again highlights the importance of protecting local food security – ensuring that whatever the weather, you will always find Manx produce on the shelves.’

They also thanked customers for continuing to back Manx producers, adding: ‘Thank you for continuing to choose Manx and supporting all us local food and drink producers.’

The comments come after a dramatic few days around the coast.

A large section of one of Douglas’s sunken gardens walls collapsed after being repeatedly hit by huge waves.

Meanwhile, windows at the Sea Terminal car park barrier on the Victoria Pier side were blown out by a combination of strong winds and heavy seas, forcing the earlier closure of the site.

An amber weather warning for coastal overtopping was in force from 11am until 3.30pm on Thursday, the third such warning issued in the space of a week, while a further yellow warning followed today.
