The Ben is Not For Sale
The Shetland Times reported that the Ben is expected to be for sale next year.
Despite reports of a potential deal in a Scottish newspapers, the Ben-my-Chree is not for sale.
A report in the Shetland Times suggested that its operators Transport Scotland and Serco Northlink were ‘eyeing a potential addition’ to the fleet.
The basis of this was that as the Ben-my-Chree is replaced as the company’s flagship by the Manxman next year, the Steam Packet may offload the Ben.
The report said that the Ben was ‘expected to go on sale next year’. However, MD Brian Thomson said there is ‘there is 0% truth in that rumour’.
Since announcing the Manxman, which is being built in South Korea, the company has said it would retain the Ben, which has served the island for over two decades, as a relief vessel.
She will also likely play a part in the company’s fleet for TT and MGP.
