Tynwald Backs Support Measures

Following a three hour debate, members voted to back the Treasury’s plans.

Tynwald has unanimously voted to approve a winter support package designed to help islanders with the cost of living crisis.

After a three hour debate, members raised several issues, but ultimately voted in favour of the package unveiled by Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson.

These measure include:

  • A loan of up to £26 million from the Treasury to Manx Utilities to enable it to cap electricity prices at current levels until March 31
  •  Bus fares capped at a maximum of £2 per journey from November for three months
  • Support payments in December for those receiving child benefit or on low incomes
  • £8m to advance efforts to improve energy efficiency in homes
  • The Community Support Fund, with an initial allocation of £100,000
