Wallabies? Over 1,000? There’s Only Room For One Furry Local!

Alright, let’s get one thing straight: I, Gef the Mongoose, am not thrilled about this wallaby invasion.

According to a recent wildlife survey, the Isle of Man is now packed with over 1,000 wallabies bouncing around in all directions.

Newsflash: There’s only room for one cool, furry local here and I think we all know who that is!

These wallabies, descendants of a few rogue jumpers that escaped the Wildlife Park in the ‘60s, are now pretty much everywhere – Sulby Glen, Ramsey Forest, even parts of Ballaugh Glen.

Thanks to BH Wildlife Consultancy, DEFA and the Manx Wildlife Trust, we now know their exact locations because they sent out drones to track the heat signatures of the little hoppers.

Yes, drones – officially better at finding wallabies than that mate of yours who’s always insisting he saw one ‘outside Jaks on the Prom’.

And before anyone asks, no, these wallabies don’t count towards Chief Minister Alfred Cannan’s 100,000 population target for the Isle of Man.

Unless the wallabies start paying rent, filing tax returns, and pitching in on island road repairs, they’re not joining the census anytime soon. Sorry, Chief.

While the drones were at it, they also clocked a crew of 245 wild goats chilling near Bulgham Bay (or Ballaragh Halt) in Maughold.

Unlike the wallabies, the goats seem content to stay near the coast.

So, to sum it up: there’s a small army of wallabies out there, hopping all over the island like they own the place.

But don’t worry, Isle of Man—there’s only one legendary mongoose, and he’s still calling the shots.
