Ramsey Rugby Club really outdid themselves this Christmas.

On Saturday night, at least 12 members of the club piled inside a homemade ‘ship’ they’d built themselves, and carried it (or sailed it) through the streets of Ramsey, fully embracing the sailor life.

The club posted: ‘HMS Wasted Seamen set sail on her maiden voyage last night as the players embarked on their annual Christmas night out. She handled the blustery streets of Ramsey admirably, with a courteous police escort guiding her down Parliament Street.’

A brilliant video shows the lads dragging their ‘vessel’ down Parliament Street, apparently under pursuit, and rumours even suggest they may have picked up a parking ticket along the way.

Police were reportedly in good spirits throughout, likely too busy laughing.

The Trafalgar Pub in Ramsey, where the crew made port, said: ‘We love Ramsey Rugby Club and their ever astounding fancy dress at Xmas! Lads you have excelled yourselves this year! You are an absolute pleasure to serve.’

It wasn’t just a stunt, it was a full-on spectacle.

The crew kept their homemade ship aloft as they navigated the town, bringing Christmas cheer (and chaos) in equal measure.

Many of the club members clearly enjoyed every second, and judging by the reaction on social media, the rest of Ramsey (and the island) did too.

Merry Christmas, lads. HMS Wasted Seamen may have sailed just one night, but it’s safe to say the legend will live on in Ramsey for years to come.
