When the Lorimers Went to Jurby

Part of being Lieutenant Governor is getting out and about around the island and on their latest trip, Sir John and Lady Lorimer recently visited the Parish of Jurby.

After meeting with the Commissioners and Captain of the Parish, John Quayle CP, at the Jurby Parish Hall, they visited the Jurby Health and Community Centre where Angela Quaggin and Yamsine Cowell discussed the important work of the Jurby and Northern Community Initiatives.

Gov House said: ‘They then tried their hands at Disc Golf, run by Ken Gubby. The game was enjoyable until one of the discs disappeared over a hedge into the unknown!

‘As with all Parish visits, His Excellency and Lady Lorimer were glad to visit the local church. It was fascinating to hear Sandra Kerrison speak about the location’s vast history and its links to WW1 and WW2, along with the recent discovery of two Viking stone crosses that were found in one of its walls.’

Barry Edwards, at the Jurby Transport Museum, showed the Lorimers a collection of vintage buses, along with many other interesting vehicles, and Christian Hall was keen to show them his plans for a future Viking Village.

Sir John and Lady Philippa also enjoyed discussing their morning at a buffet lunch at The Old Guardhouse to conclude their tour.
