Slow Down
The Police have warned drivers to slow down around schools after an incident where a child was involved in a collision near a primary school.
Officers have engaged with schools to ensure children know how to be safe around the road and have also offered advice for drivers.
The Eastern Neighbour Policing Team said: ‘Please drive slow and safe around schools and watch out for children crossing . Especially on the roads leading to the schools 
‘Please park only in legal places and so as not to cause obstructions to other vehicles or pedestrians 
Please take note of school crossing patrol officers directions and slow down well before you get to the crossings.
‘These issues exist for most schools but if everyone just takes a little care hopefully everyone can be safe.’
Players
The FA has congratulated the December/January players of the month.
Becky Corkish, who is the Isle of Man and Peel captain, has been a stalwart of women’s football for 10 years, but weirdly this is her first player of the month award. Becky didn’t play in the Canada Life Floodlit Cup Final on Saturday due to injury, but in the run-up, her five goals across three matches certainly helped get them there.
Laxey’s Adam Mealin consistently ranked highly with Isle of Man Today Sports Centre ratings team, throughout both months. His side went eight matches unbeaten from 21st November, through to their cup defeat by St Marys at the start of February. He was also on target once in December and twice in January.
16 year old Milly Dawson is currently the Canada Life Women’s League top scorer in her first season in senior football. The Corinthians AFC Isle of Man striker has been on fire with 20 goals from 11 appearances, including seven in this period.
Dominic McHarrie-Brennan is the Canada Life U21 Player of the Month with some excellent showings for Douglas Royal FC, as they added to their league points tally. The 20 year old followed up a brace of goals versus St Georges, with another brace vs St Johns later in January!
Lambs and Dogs
The Cops are asking dog owners to be mindful of sheep this lambing season.
The Police said: ‘Last season we had numerous instances of livestock worrying due to dogs being off lead or not under proper control, some of which resulted in prosecutions and court appearances.
‘As with last season, we will work together with Manx Farming And Food Matters – Manx NFU and DEFA – Hills, Forests & Glens with regards to complaints about dogs roaming onto farmland and harming or killing livestock.
‘From working in partnership we identified weaknesses in some hedges and fence lines which have since been repaired by DEFA in conjunction with landowners.
‘NFU canvassed farmers and police records were checked and it suggested that there may be an underreporting of instances to the police.
‘We urge landowners and farmers to report instances of livestock being harmed or dogs running on land to the police. In doing so we are able to accurately record matters to show if there are any patterns of vulnerable areas ie fence weaknesses or repeat offenders and the relevant department can take appropriate action.’
