School Decision to be Made Tomorrow Morning

The gov has confirmed it will aim to make a decision on school openings by no later than 6.45am tomorrow.

Its Adverse Weather group will meet to discuss the likelihood of snow affecting the island.

Activated when an amber weather warning issued, the group is made up of staff from emergency planning, the Met Office, emergency services, schools, highways and healthcare.

The group considers the impact and management of services based on the most up to date information and forecasting available.

The gov said: ‘The group monitors situations as they develop and responds accordingly, particularly when considering things like busses, gritting and schools. They also consider school closures – keeping the impact on teachers, students, parents and transport networks in mind.

‘These decisions take into account information available at the time, and look at the conditions forecast over the course of a whole day. They also look at whether the bus service is running and whether sufficient numbers of teachers are able to make it to schools to ensure they are able to operate.

‘Tonight the group will be keeping a close eye on how the weather mapping develops tomorrow afternoon with the snow that is forecasted. A decision will be made tomorrow morning if there are to be any closures or further updates. The group aims to make decisions on school closures no later than 0645am, with an announcement made after this.’
