An amber weather warning is in place for snow, but it has changed from yesterday and is now for areas over 800ft instead of 500.
The gov says says schools on the island will open as normal today.
An amber weather warning is in place for snow, but it has changed from yesterday and is now for areas over 800ft instead of 500.
The gov said: ‘There may still be some disruption to travel for routes on higher ground, but due to a milder temperature with the updated forecast the majority of the Island is expected to see rain and sleet. Residents are asked to please drive to the conditions.’
The Met Office’s weather warming: ‘An area of rain, sleet and snow will affect the island this morning before tending to peter out later in the evening. In addition, strong to gale force easterly winds will develop with gusts up to 50-55mph possible.
]Areas above around 800 FT are most at risk of seeing significant accumulations of snow (5-10cm) with the possibility of 15-20cm above 1200 FT. Given the strength of the wind significant blowing snow is possible leading to deep drifts in places, more especially towards the west of the island.
‘Rain is expected for low-levels with sleet at times depending on the intensity of the precipitation. This more likely for western areas where temporary slushy accumulations are possible.’
