A Pocket in the Mist
Many people on social media have praised the pilot’s skill
With dense mist and fog surrounding the island, a Coastguard helicopter landed on Douglas Beach to transfer a patient to the UK last night.
The helicopter’s landing attracted a sizeable number of residents to the Queen’s Promenade end of the beach just before midnight last night.
In a post, Douglas Coastguard said: ‘Douglas Coastguards assisted IOM Ambulance Service with an urgent Medical transfer out from the island, due to the weather conditions Rescue 936 was unable to land at the Heli Pad at Nobles, fortunately Rescue 936 found a pocket in the mist and was able to land on Douglas Beach where we carried out the transfer, thanks also goes to the Police for crowd control and Emergency Road closure.’
The helicopter had flown to the island from North Wales and after leaving the island, flew to Liverpool, where it landed at Alder Hey Hospital.
As well as praising the medical teams, many people on social media have praised the pilot’s skill in landing the helicopter in such difficult conditions.
No further details have been released about the person and we ask our readers not to speculate on their identity or condition.
