Two-Thirds of Cars Fail Crosby Check
Two thirds of vehicles stopped in Crosby last night by police were found with defects during the first Operation Uplift winter check.
The Isle of Man Constabulary Roads Policing Unit, joined by Customs and Excise and the Vehicle Testing Centre, stopped 27 vehicles in Marown.
Eighteen had minor issues such as faulty lights, with drivers issued Vehicle Defect Rectification Notices.
One driver got points and a fine for a tyre so worn the inner cords were exposed.
Police said: ‘This evening saw the first roadside checkpoint of Operation Uplift (winter checks) taking place in Crosby where we were joined by our partners from IOM customs and excise and the Vehicle Testing Centre.
‘A total of 27 vehicles were stopped and examined this evening. 18 of those vehicles were found to have various lighting and other minor defects; the drivers of those vehicles were issued with Vehicle Defect Rectification Notices.
‘Another vehicle was found to have a defective tyre that was so badly worn the inner cords were exposed; the driver of that vehicle received points on their licence and a fine.’
It added that they will be back at other roadside checkpoints at different locations later this week, so if you can, make sure you and your vehicle are safe and legal to be on the Manx roads.
