Instead of allowing the story to break him, he took on the tabloids and drove the narrative, turning it into a defining moment.

Undercover Ambulance: NHS in Chaos
Last year, an ambulance crew member in the UK secretly filmed his daily life at work to show how tirelessly himself and his colleagues had been working. The footage shows the staff struggling to save lives as the strain the NHS is under lengthens ambulance delays and overwhelms A&E departments.

In one circumstance, a teenage girl is driven to Watford General Hospital by her parents after dilocating her kneecap. She’s lying on her back on an outdoor table, which has been used as a makeshift stretcher. It’s revealed that when her parents dialled 999, they were told they would have to wait 20 hours for an ambulance.

Watch it on Channel 4 from Thursday at 9pm.

Binge-worthy box sets

Y: The Last Man
A catastrophic event kills every mammal with a Y chromosome but one cisgender man and his pet monkey. Survivors must traverse this post-apocalyptic world as they struggle to restore what was lost.

Based on a science-fiction comic book series, this feels very unique. The show takes on a hugely political look at how the remaining women rebuild society without men. It partly follows the new president as she tries to get the country back up and running as starving hordes of people protest outside the gates of the Pentagon. It also follows Yorick, her son, the last male as he tries to determine why he is still alive and tries to keep hidden. It certainly takes the time to ponder the bigger questions, which is where this show really thrives.

However, the most interesting story it follows is that of Agent 355. It takes its time in revealing much about her past, but as it does, she quite quickly becomes a fan-favourite.

Fresh Meat
This was a must-watch for me before I went to university, and happily ended up being a comfort show I’d find myself returning to again and again.

Fresh Meat follows Manchester Medlock University students who share a house off-campus through their three years of study. It stars some familiar faces with the likes of Charlotte Ritchie, of You and Feel Good fame, comedian Jack Whitehall, Inbetweener Joe Thomas, and Velvet Buzzsaw’s Zawe Ashton.

It has some of the best character writing I’ve seen and is just relatable enough that you can almost instantly spot the stereotypes you will often find at university. Though it’s primarily a comedy that takes a look at some of the crazier moments of uni, it doesn’t shy away from the harder times in friendships, relationships and academia.
