Channel Islands Battered by Storm

Three people have been hospitalised and over 40 have been evacuated from their homes overnight in Jersey as Storm Ciaran battered the island.

The wind officially reached 102mph at around 5am.

As well as damaged to properties, there is concern that the roof of Jersey’s hospital may be damaged, trees are down blocking roads across the island and people are still being warned to stay at home.

Christian May, who works for the Jersey Gov showed pictures of hailstones he said he collected from his garden which he was able to measure in inches while some houses are without power.

The situation on Guernsey appears to have been less severe, where aside from the horrendous howling wind and trees down, there has been little reported major damage.

Flights and ferries to Jersey and Guernsey are cancelled all day and schools are closed as well.
