Post Early

Isle of Man Post Office has urged customers to post early in light of upcoming UK postal strike action.

This comes following news that a further 19 dates of planned strikes have been announced by the CWU who represent the majority of Royal Mail’s postal workers, with 3 of these being ‘all out’ strike action across the Royal Mail network. 

The strike dates are as follows, but subject to change upon formal notification from Royal Mail.

October: 13^th, 20^th and 25^th

November: 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, 8^th, 9^th, 10^th, 14^th, 15^th, 16^th 23^rd and 24^th

December: 1^st and 2^nd

Renewables

The island will host an international conference focusing on renewable energy later this month, with experts from the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Faroe Islands.

The ‘Building A Low-Carbon Island Economy’ conference at The Comis Hotel on October 27 has been organised by the Energy & Sustainability Centre Isle of Man (ESC)which is an independent, not-for-profit, Isle of Man charity. ESC – which is sponsored by KPMG, The Peel Group, and Zurich on the Isle of Man – is led by earth scientist and Chair of the Manx Geological Survey, Dr Dave Quirk (who will be speaking at the conference); former MHK Ralph Peake; and environmental specialist John Boucher who has a Master’s degree in sustainable energy.

ESC Director Ralph Peake said: ‘Attending this conference is a must for anyone involved in sustainability-related roles in the public or private sectors. It will be an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand from internationally respected experts who have developed strategies to achieve 100% renewable energy as early as 2030.’

No Buddies

There will be no Beach Buddies trip out this weekend, instead the beach cleaning dream machine will be back in operation next week.
