Waiting for a blizzard!
Well I didn’t think we’d be doing one of these again for a while, but here we go folks.
Not expecting a lot this morning, but here’s the state of play as things stand:
The overnight closure of the A18 Mountain Road, Beinn Y Phott Road & Tholt Y Will Roads has been extended until midday tomorrow (Friday 10 March) at which time the situation will be reviewed.
Ahead of the anticipated snow & ice conditions later in the day, Highway Services staff are currently undertaking pre-salting operations. The focus is on strategic routes in the first instance, followed by other priority routes such around medical facilities, etc.
- Schools are closed
- Hospital has cancelled afternoon appointments, except for urgent ones
- The Mountain is closed from Ramsey Hairpin to the Greg, as is Tholt y Will and Beignet Phott
- The Ben hasn’t sailed to Heysham and as a result won’t be sailing back either
- Gov offices and such things will close at 12pm, as will the NSC, MUA, MNH sites, yet to hear an update from the cafe near Gef Towers
- Webcams are primed for snowmen with large icicles
- The Southern Recycling Centre is to open from 9am to allow people to collect any rock salt before closing at midday
- The southern Community Pool has also said it will likely close at 12.15pm, a final call will be made at 11.30, but staff say it is highly likely it will close by 1pm
- Onchan Library has also opened early today, but is expecting to close when the weather turns

Due to the forecast adverse weather conditions, the VillaGaiety complex will be closed to the public from 12pm (midday) today.As a result, the following events are unable to go ahead as scheduled today:– Isle of Man Festival of Darts (Villa Marina)– Isle of Man Young Farmers Concert (Gaiety Theatre)– What’s Love Got to Do with It? (Broadway Cinema)
