Village Clean an Outstanding Success

Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale has praised the charity’s first community cleanup in Laxey as ‘an outstanding success’.

Bill said Sunday saw an excellent turn-out of local residents, supported by Beach Buddies volunteers, with a significant amount of rubbish collected.

The event saw 42 people turn out, with many of the new faces coming from Laxey and the surrounding area.

Bill said: ‘With support from Laxey & Garff Commissioners, this was the first of a series of new events which will now be held at least once a month in the future.

‘Sincere thanks are once again due to the owners of the Laxey Beach Cafe who gave all volunteers free refreshments afterwards. Much appreciated. Thanks also to the Commissioners who have been very closely involved in this project and fully supportive from the beginning. They attended throughout the event, and supplied equipment for the day.

‘All in all, an excellent day – which was the original idea of Robbie Counsell – and looks like being a project which will continue long into the future.’

Following on the from the original success of events run in Jurby, the Laxey cleanup is one that Bill hopes will become a regular feature across the island.
