One World Centre organise street collection for Ukraine

One World Centre is organising a street collection around the Isle of Man this weekend in aid of the DEC UKraine Appeal. The volunteers will be out with their buckets in Douglas, Ramsey, Peel, Castletown and Port Erin this Saturday and Sunny. The money will then be passed onto charities in the DEC umbrella group that are best able to offer assistance to individuals both inside Ukraine and those who have fled to neighbouring countries.

Former Nurses’ Home to be Redeveloped

It has been announced that the Former Nurses’ Home on Westmoreland Road, Douglas, will be refurbished to include contemporary one and two bedroom apartments, as well as a ‘coffee and patisserie facility’- very continental. Additional apartments will be housed in the modern glazed rooftop extension.

Greenhouse Gas Target Set 

Following a public consultation, an interim greenhouse gas reduction target of 45% by 205 will go before the March sitting of Tynwald for approval. 

The public consultation saw a small majority supported a high-ambition target for the Island, with 51% of respondents in favour of 45% or higher by 2030.

Subject to the approval of the interim target regulation, the Climate Change Plan 2022-2027 will be brought to Tynwald this July.

Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce create net-zero task force

In other net-zero news, the Chamber of Commerce has created a task force to help businesses achieve net zero targets. The IoM Business Sustainability Group is chaired by Chris Gledhill, CEO of PDMS. The groups aims and objectives include promoting action towards achieving net zero emissions, no matter what size of business or what sector; collate concerns and questions; and provide an open source of practical expertise. 

Kim Kardashian officially a single woman

This is the sort of news story that only gets featured in the round-up if Sam is away. Great news for anyone who hopes to be Kim Kardashian’s fourth husband- the influencer/reality star has had the first part of her bifurcated divorce resolved, and has now dropped ‘West’ from her name. This comes after Ye, formerly Kanye West, has been acting increasingly erratic on social media- including comments about Kim and her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson.

Trustees sought for National Heritage Charity

COMIN are seeking Trustees to join the Board of the Manx Museum and National Trust, trading as Manx National Heritage.

Appointments to the Board are made by Tynwald who are currently seeking a Chairperson and Trustees to serve up to a five year term. The Board is responsible for the governance of Manx Museum and National Trust’s activities.

The Trustee roles are unpaid public appointments and Trustees serve a maximum term of five years. They also act as ambassadors for the charity.
