Cannabis Dispensing Should Start in December
The rollout was delayed after issues with the UK’s Home Office.
The gov has announced it hopes that the trial dispensing of medicinal cannabis products will begin early next month.

However, the gov has said: ‘Following recent discussions with the UK Home Office, the DHSC is now aiming for the dispensing service for cannabis based medicinal products to begin from December 1. The meeting generated a pragmatic solution to importation ensuring that all parties adhere to UN drugs conventions, and will further strengthen the governance arrangements around the pilot dispensing service.’
Assuming the Manx and UK Govs are able to ensure everything is in order, then the rollout should go ahead as planned.
It has previously been announced that Karson’s Pharmacy in Onchan will be handling the dispensing of medicinal cannabis products as a pilot for a minimum of 12 months.
This means that islanders with private prescriptions for medicinal cannabis products will be able to have their prescriptions fulfilled locally for the first time.
Patients seeking cannabis based medicinal products will need to do so via a private prescription from a private clinic in the UK or Crown Dependencies, by clinicians who are on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) and who can prescribe CBPMs.
