Free Period Product Pick up Point set up in Douglas

In need of some FREE period products? Well, you’re in luck!

Local campaign group The Manx Menstrual Movement has set up a distribution point in Douglas in the hope of giving people an accessible location to get period products free of charge, no questions asked.

The ‘Period Pick n Mix’ station can be found in the Henry Bloom Noble Library and involves a trolley containing a variety of different products with paper bags on the side. All people have to do is go in and help themselves to what they need. It’s been set up thanks to donations from Mary Oppenheimer & Daughters.

Free period products are also available at the IOM Foodbank.

The Manx Menstrual Movement is led by Rhian Evans and Nicki Gaskell who set it up with the aim of introducing a Bill on the Isle of Man that would help reduce period poverty and the stigma around menstruation by making products free to anyone who needs them.

The idea came after being inspired by Scotland’s Period Products (Free Provision) Act – implemented in 2021 – making them the only country in the world to supply free products in public spaces. Since then, Northern Ireland has introduced a similar Act.

Rhian and Nicki are working with MHK Joney Faragher who is looking to introduce the Bill in the House of Keys next week. It seeks to ‘bring dignity, inclusivity and equality for people, finally ending period poverty.’

So, if you find yourself caught short and with no cash, you can now pop into HBN Library and p p p p p pick up some period products.
