Contractor Paid for Flume Repair

One of the longest running farces on the island came to an end this weekend as the second flume at the NSC was reopened following yet more repair work.

Since work first got underway in 2018, we have had two Lords of Mann, a global pandemic, three education ministers and FC Isle of Man has been formed and gained promotion.

With the, hopeful, final chapter in this story now complete, we spoke to Education, Sport and Culture Minister Julie Edge, who inherited the mess from her predecessors, to confirm that the contractor was picking up the bill for the latest repairs.

Speaking to Gef ahead of the working being completed, Ms Edge said: ‘I want a resolution and I want it fixed. I’m hopeful that the contractor has come up with the right solution and they’ll both be open.’

She also confirmed that ‘part of the contract was that any defects had to be fixed by the contractors’, meaning that the taxpayer wasn’t picking up any further cost for the delay, having already been forced to pay £200,000 for repairs back in 2020.
