The overindulgence of Christmas is nigh.
You find yourself sat, 2-stone heavier, in a graveyard of unfinished food, wasted wrapping paper, the empty husks of post-cracked crackers, and sixteen Boots Christmas gift sets nobody wants. The word Charades shall hence-forth never be mentioned again after your auntie punched your cousin in the head for not getting ‘Schindler’s List’ and you’d rather scoop your own eyes out with an unwashed ladle than watch another Christmas film.
Instead. Maybe you’re in need of a green pallet cleanser. MAYBE you should watch ESC’s GreenTalks Live.
‘WHAT’S THAT?’ I hear you ask, gravy dropping from your mouth, staining your George Michael jumper.
It’s a video on the island’s BIGGEST EVER sustainability debate, hosted by the BBC’s one and only Clive Myrie – the ever reliable, comforting-in-the-face-of-reporting-on-global-horrors, and, let’s be honest, sexy, award winning journalist.
Organised by the Energy & Sustainability Centre Isle of Man (ESC), the two-hour Question Time-style event features insights from an expert panel of climate change scientists, business leaders, environmentalists and politicians.
They not only partake in verbal battles but physical ones too, during which panel members dress up AS climate change and environmental activists and fight in a Gladiator (the TV show) style format. I hear there’s even a live bear involved.
ESC Director Ralph Peake said: ‘The debate covers the most important topics relevant to the Isle of Man and sustainability, from the small changes we can all make as individuals through to the big decisions that Government and the private sector need to make if the island is to transition to a low-carbon economy.
‘With participants including world-renowned scientists such as Professors Peter Bridgewater and James Curran, GreenTalks Live also highlighted how the Isle of Man cannot and must not ignore the impact that climate change will have on how we live in the decades ahead.
Everyone on the island will be affected by climate change in some way, so we hope that the video will inform and inspire the whole community to work together as we move ever closer to the island’s net-zero targets.’

But you should still give the debate a go, if only to give you a break from watching Channel 4’s ‘Funniest but Cringiest Live TV Moments Ever To Happen IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION, LET’S ALL LAUGH AND POINT AT THESE NUMPTIES, WHAT ARE THEY LIKE?! HA HA HA HA’ for the 157th time this week.
