Gov to Consult on Single Use Vape Ban

In Westminster, greater emphasis has been placed on the health implications of the vapes, as the UK gov says they have been aimed at children who have become addicted to them.
While supporters and users of the vapes say they help people quit smoking, there are criticisms that they have led to children taking them up and the Guardian recently reported that research suggests five million vapes are thrown away in the UK every week and that the batteries would provide enough lithium to create 5,000 electric cars.
It is the environmental concerns that are also the emphasis of any potential ban on the island.
A DEFA spokesperson said the department ‘is aware of the environmental implications posed by disposable vapes, relating to both single use plastic and lithium ion batteries’.
They added: ‘Work is underway to consult on secondary regulations under the Climate Change Bill to ban single use plastic vapes.’
