Community Group Consulting on Park Plan

A community in the west of the island could be gaining a children’s playground, if there is enough local support.

The Glen Maye Revival Group presented the idea to Patrick Commissioners to address a lack of a playground in (Gef’s hometown) Dalby and surrounding area.

At the meeting, the group told the board that land at Creggan Aashe in Glen Maye had been identified as a possible site, but that previous proposals had been met with opposition from residents.

The local authority said that the group should lead on the plans and it has now created a survey to gauge support.

Group member Chloe said: ‘Patrick Commissioners have asked me to perform a village/community survey in relation to a potential playground being installed in Glen Maye on the grass area between The Lhargan and Creggan Aashen.

‘Lots of people have expressed that the village and surrounding areas of Dalby and Patrick are missing a playground for the children, and I too believe that this would be a great addition and provide our children with somewhere they can learn fundamental physical, emotional and social skills.’

She added: ‘I understand this has been talked about A LOT over the years but as far as I can see there is nothing documented about why this never gained traction. This is hopefully the first of many steps to assessing the suitability and feasibility of a playground.’
