Guernsey Goes Back to the Future

Guernsey’s politicians have voted to throw out its senior leaders and will seek to appoint a new administration today.

The Policy & Resources committee, which acts as its main gov on the island, has been led by Deputy Peter Ferbrache, essentially the island’s equivalent of chief minister.

Deputies backed a motion of no confidence brought by Deputy Charles Parkinson to dismiss the committee by 23 votes to 16 this.

Deputy Parkinson summarised that the committee had had ‘no amazing, dazzling achievements’ over the past three years in office and that the confidence debate ‘needed to happen’.

Among those voting to dismiss the committee was former chief minister Gavin St Pier, who was controversially not given a gov rule after leading the island through Covid and topping an island-wide poll which saw all members for Guersney’s parliament elected under one constituency.
