Minister Won’t List Inaccuracies
Mr Hooper has previously responded to strong words from former chair Andrew Cole by saying reports received over the previous two years contained ‘a number of factual errors’.
Health Minister Lawrie Hooper says he doesn’t intend to list the inaccuracies he sys the DHSC identified in a recent Health Services Consultative Committee (HSCC) Report.
Mr Hooper has previously responded to strong words from former chair Andrew Cole by saying reports received over the previous two years contained ‘a number of factual errors’.
Responding to a written question from Speaker Juan Watterson, about if would list the inaccuracies, Mr Hooper said he didn’t intend to list the inaccuracies, but did give examples which he claimed demonstrated this.
He said that the report had: Incorrect references to the Department’s Legislative Programme; Inaccurate statements about funding; Incorrect references to the Manx Care Mandate; Statements about delayed policy decisions where no examples were provided/evidenced; and Inaccurate statements about the publication of Care Quality Commission reports.
He said: ‘Similar concerns about accuracy were raised with the HSCC following completion of their annual report in 2022.’
And added: ‘The Department has been working to modernise the role of the HSCC and will be bringing forward new Regulations, underpinned by guidance, to clearly set out the role of the HSCC and how it integrates with the DHSC oversight framework. It is intended that these new Regulations will set out in an open and transparent manner the Department’s aim to ensure there is a formal mechanism to represent the service user’s voice in the development of policy, strategy and critically in the delivery of services.’
Manx Radio’s Phil Gawne said he has also offered Mr Hooper the chance to outline the issues his department has with the HSCC report and to discuss this with Mr Cole, however this hadn’t yet happened.
