A petition to save the Southern Swimming Pool has amassed over 2,100 since it opened on Friday.

The gov is recommended that the pool be closed as a cost-cutting measure as it says keeping the existing provision across the island open would require an additional £602,000.

It has argued that if it closes the southern pool, it would save ‘around £434,000 a year’.

The potential closure has been met with anger from local residents who don’t want to see the south lose its only public pool.

Meanwhile, parents have criticised the plans and some have even suggested that Julie Edge, Alf Cannan and Dr Alex Allinson go to primary schools in the south to explain their decision to the children.

A report on the future of the island’s pools is due to be published today.
